Called to Create: A Prayer for Creatives

Heavenly Father,
the Giver of all good and perfect things,
we thank you for your gift of creativity that you freely gift to us.
We were created in the image of you, the Maker of all things,
to reflect your joyous, wondrous creativity.
When you created the heavens and the earth,
and everything in it, you said it was good.
When you created man and woman
in your image, you delighted.
And you call, you are calling
each of us to create wherever we are,
whatever we may be doing.
We are called to create
life-giving homes,
life-building relationships,
life-transforming communities,
life-invigorating workplaces,
life-enhancing solutions,
life-uplifting music, art, and stories,
life-breathing cultures,
and life-birthing life.
We are called, called to create,
because we are yours
to shine your light in this world
that desperately needs
your life-reviving, life-restoring light.
Lord, help us to be faithful
to this creative calling
you have given to each of us,
in a unique, creative way
that only each of us can beautifully create.
You are the very source
of our creativity.
And we want to honor you
in our creating, in our calling.
Help us not bury it,
not use it for selfish ambition,
not underestimate it.
But help us to cultivate it,
use it well, for your glory,
for your name alone.
